The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Office of Informatics and Analytics (OIA), Core Informatics unit is currently recruiting a highly motivated and qualified Epidemiologist to support data quality and reporting activities related to the Integrated Data System (IDS), TDH Data Lake, and other similar projects as assigned. The person in this position will serve as a liaison between IDS staff and other TDH divisions and programs and supporting information technology staff. The person in this position will assist with performing data quality assessments during data source onboarding and value add calculations, data integration with other sources, as well as assisting users with accessing and reporting from the IDS and Data Lake.
As a member of the Office of Informatics and Analytics, this individual will get exposure and experience in the use and development of interoperability standards, like HL7, and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of informatics projects including system integration, system interoperability, electronic health record implementation, and public health reporting projects.
This position may require some in-state and possible out-of-state travel. There is also the potential for presentation and public speaking opportunities. Core Informatics staff will assist with emergency response situations when necessary.

Skills:
Serve as data quality and reporting subject matter expert for Core Informatics unit, leading data quality strategic planning activities
Develop surveillance data quality strategy, process, and procedures
Serve as a liaison between OIA and TDH programs wishing to use data sources from IDS and Data Lake
Provide training and education for TDH staff using data sources from IDS and Data Lake
Assist with documentation gathering, generation, and communication of the IDS and Data Lake resources
Work with Core Informatics, IDS, and Data Lake teams on data quality proactive assessments and enhancements and associated testing and documentation
Work with Core Informatics staff to develop dynamic dashboards to assess data quality, completeness, timeliness that allow for data driven decision-making. Communicate data quality issues to TDH programs for them to address
Provide subject matter technical expertise consultation and hands-on technical guidance for interoperability projects, assisting with data quality assessment and reporting
Education:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, public health, public health informatics, computer science, or computer information science required with 5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications: PhD or Master degree in epidemiology, public health, public health informatics, computer science, or computer information science with 2 to 3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred candidates for this position will have a strong understanding of both epidemiological methods and informatics principles and practices, have data analysis experience, experience managing and analyzing data quality using a statistical packages (SAS / R), and proficient with basic SQL commands. Individuals should have excellent organizational skills, a keen attention to detail with strong oral and written communication skills.
Salary:
$76,596 - $121,296
